The Velhari

A people shaped by loss, defined by what they chose to carry.

A people shaped by loss, defined by what they chose to carry.

When the dry came to Velhar, the Velhari did not all agree on what to do. Some stayed and learned to live with dust. Some walked north and built Velorin. Both groups consider themselves the true Velhari, and both are right.

The northern Velhari are traders and builders — pragmatic, loud, fond of argument and negotiation. They built the canals, the harbours, the bridges. They will sell you anything and charge you fairly for it, and if you try to cheat them they will remember.

The southern Velhari, the ones who stayed, are quieter. They know things about the land and the weather that border on prophecy. They do not trade much. They watch, and wait, and endure.

What unites them: a deep, stubborn refusal to go to war. They walked away from it once. They intend to keep walking.
