Lazybees

Type
Wild bee
Size
Tiny
Disposition
Placid until provoked
Region
Enedal
Range
Vineyards, orchards and old trees near the forest edge
Primary use
Pollinating the lower vines

Lazybees are wild bees that nest in old fruit trees and hang their combs beneath the branches. They fly slowly, in loose golden loops, and their deep, even hum is easy to mistake for the sound of a warm hillside. The lower vines depend on them, and in Halveth everyone knows it.

The name describes their flight and nothing else. Damage a comb and the whole colony rises at once, chases the offender a surprising distance and stings no more gently than a busybee. They seem to single out whoever makes the most noise.

Notes

  • Tearing down a lazybee comb is frowned upon in Halveth, since the vines need the bees. Harpies, who raid the combs for honey, do not share this view.
